As well as approving or rejecting an entry, it is also possible to abstain  from voting. The meaning of an abstention is either "don't mind" or "don't know" and is a way of documenting the user's abstention and also of informing other users involved in the voting loop that he has abstained. Abstentions are ignored in the decision-making process. This applies for both approval tasks and edit tasks. Ideally a reason for the abstention should be provided through the chat function (e.g., "Not my area of expertise").
